I have read in a recent article by the portuguese deparment of forests (Direccao Geral de Florestas) that two old trees, located in the top of Saint Sylvester hill, near the chapel, have been considered by the authorities, as trees of public interest. These are really good news, as this will mean special care, for trees, that can have more than 200 years, and that as far as I can remember, were there in my childhood. Since they are located near the chapel, they have protected with their branches the peregrines while eating during the romary. At the same time, the branches were also used to hang the speakers used to broadcast the musics and the Christian celebrations. I hope that they will last more years, although the summer fires and the winds are making a tough mission, as proved by the accident, that one of the trees suffered a couple of years ago.

As to improve the user experience here at Cardielos Digital, I have implmented a basic social networking tool, that will allow all members to share useful information about themselves with the other members of the community. The tool is available under the option Social Networking in the left menu. It will allow members to upload their favorite images, make references to videos and other multimedia information on other sites. The system is build around the Yogurt Beta 2.9 available for the XOOPS CMS, which is being used on this site, and it is really a very promising tool.

For those who don´t know, Serreleis is a small village that shares with Cardielos, the same beach name , Barco do Porto, and part of the Saint Sylvester hill. For a while, there was no reference to them on the Internet, but now I have found a small video presenting the village.

I have found a very good article written by a folklore group of portugueses living in Germany about the usage of gold in the Minho's folklore and how much it represented to Minho's women a couple of years back.
I still remember that my grandmother was always buying gold and that each opportunity that she had, was a good one to buy more and more, and at the same to give some to her family. During the old days gold represented a sign of richness, and the more gold the girl was able to show on her chest the more attractive she was to be married. During the major celebrations in Cardielos, it is tradition to have a couple of girls to be dressed in the typical "Bride" costume, and to aks to all the neighbours int he village to borrow their gold for a couple of days, in order to have the "mordoma" bear the maximum gold possible on her chest. The article is still in portuguese but I will translate it to english during the next days, as I think it is a good reference to understand one our major traditions in Cardielos

Although I am not fully sure that the group dancing is from Cardielos, I have found the link in comments to other posts concerning Cardielos and i have decided to include it, as it is really an impressive showcase of the traditional dancing in Minho Region and Cardielos. The choreography is not the typical one, as the dancing is usually based in circles, but netherless it is magnificent.

During my regular searchs on Internet for anything related with Cardielos, I have found a website dedicated to typical costumes from Portugal. In one of the entries in the blog, they are referring to the typical costumes used in Cardielos and about the manual labor performed to actually make the costumes so beautiful. I am publishing here the link and in the weblinks section Trajes de Portugal

Sometime ago, I was told, that Cardielos council was thinking in creating a webpage to create an easy communication link with Cardielos People. Over time, I forgot about this information, and since the pager was not being found the search engines, I was not looking for it. During these summer holidays, some official documentation from the council came to my hands, and I was that finally the webpage was online. I have spent sometime looking at it, and althought it is not one of the most moderns ones that I have seen, not only in other countries, but aswell in Portugal now, it is a good page with a lot of references and information that can be usefull. The link can be found in the weblinks section of this portal. cardielos.no.sapo.pt

During the last weeks I have been asked by a couple of non portugues native visitants, the reason I was publishing a lot of valuable information about an interresting place on the internet, without giving the possibility to non native portuguese people to understand what was being said. It was a very good point, i have thought about it for a while, and i have implemented the site in English as well.
